The question that no one asked but is getting answered anyway: What are the longest standing untied records on The Sonic Center?

I was inspired to research this by the Goldeneye and Perfect Dark community over at https://www.the-elite.net/. There, they have two tables, one showing the top 10 longest lasting untied records ever and another showing the current untied records along with the option to show those tables as they were on an earlier date. While TSC does not have this feature, the data is available to find this manually. There was just this tiny difference where TSC has just a few more games to cover, 55 more or less, with many of them having a significant number of charts. Additionally, several games track time to a value more precise than a second and have competetive ring or score charts, making untied records common throughout the site. With that said, finding the longest lasting untied records ever is a lot of work and will have to wait for a later day, but I did compile a list of all 4453 current untied records on this spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1e7qDY73t_0AVgF6J06apnISeh6d2diKSXM7Zu6zOZSU/edit?usp=sharing.

Edit: Added Sonic The Hedgehog to the spreadsheet as that game was missing entirely, as it was on 2018 October 31. Total current untied records corrected from 4139 to 4453.

Interesting post, I like this kind of stuff, because some records really do stand the test of time. It’s neat seeing whose records have stood atop the charts the longest, who has the most untouchable record in the history of the site.

Tbh my vote is for MickX’s 861 in rings on Leaf Storm 2 with Blaze, that legit requires SIX god damn 50s, a one in over 15,000 chance, and those are odds I am not willing to beat without the internet to stream and capture equipment for my DSi so I can just broadcast each of the thousands of attempts it would no doubt take to replicate such a feat.

Is it possible to get a data dump of all records on TSC? And not just the 1st places but basically all data on the site.

How far do you wanna go with this all-encompassing data? do you only want the current times that each user has or their entire submission history also? The latter might be a monumental task, but the former at least looks as simple as a spreadsheet.

It has been a little bit over 6 years, how much has this list changed? Looking at just the top 25, 18 of the 31 records were broken (with 1 intially tied prior to being improved) and 1 was tied with no improvement. Most of the records broken were in Sonic CD, largely by andy120195 and Xandre69. The oldest record from the initial post, SA(DX) - Twinkle Park - Amy - Rings by videogamemaster777, was broken by Coolfansonic on 2023 September 25, stopping that streak at 7071 days. Still older than any of the current untied records. To give some idea of the rate at which old records are tied or broken, the date of the 25th oldest record has only advanced part way over 3 months in those 6 years. The site has A LOT of charts. The spreadsheet linked in the original post has not been updated at the time of this post.

This might just be the spark of inspiration I need to get back on Sonic Rush... haven't played the game in years, so I'd have to relearn the route for Mirage Road 2, but I came close back in the day. I was just five rings off the record. I do remember that you need insane RNG to beat Crowbar's total though. There's 6 random monitors on that level, and to beat Crowbar, you need all course rings & either 5/6 50s or 4/6 50s and a bare minimum of 40 rings from the last two randoms. That's why I stopped going for it back then.

EDIT: I just realized that Sonic Rush's RA category has 3 really old records from 2006, after looking at #22 on this list & looking at the charts again, I spotted that Blaze's Huge Crisis 1 RA record just barely missed being on this list. I'm more motivated than ever to try and crack some of these old records now. Problem is, Altitude Limit is ass to RA, and Altitude Limit 1 has a killer hang glider section that I could not for the life of me get the hang of back in the day, so I'd have to drill that section to have a shot at beating it. As for Huge Crisis 1, SkyLights achieved near-perfection on a stage with 5 random ring monitors, meaning only 1/3,125 odds (or a 0.032% chance) to get 5/5 50s combined with perfect execution can definitively beat it, and 4/5 50s plus one 30 just to tie. The odds are so stacked against you on that level if you want the record.
